Recently I have read several books that touch in the Spanish Civil War, which I had known very little about. They helped me to realize it’s importance in the conflict between Facism and communism, motivating Americans to illegally become involved, and how it influenced many major writers. I love the approach in this novel, showing Spanish society through the life of Spanish citizens, while introducing foreigners and the tourists who introduce American culture. There are quite a few story threads introduced and I am intrigued to know more about them all. This novel brings this time period to life. I have wanted to read this author for some time. This is the right book at the right time for me.
