Fountains of Silence depicts life in post-Civil War Spain in the late 1950’s under the dictatorship of Generalissimo Franco. Daniel is the young and privileged American son of a Texas oil baron who comes to Spain with his parents while his father is on business. During Daniel’s time in Spain, his eyes are opened by a young Spaniard girl, Ana and her family.

This book is hefty, but it reads so quickly. I was hooked very early on and flew through it to finish it. The story is told in multiple perspectives and I love those kinds of stories. This is one of the finest examples of historical fiction that I have read and I am looking forward to reading more by this author. It truly opened my own eyes to a place and time period that I did not know much about.
