I can tell how much research went into this book and I’m so impressed by it. I am not always a regular reader of historical fiction, but I am grateful that I left my comfort zone for this book. I really liked how each character was so distinct in their personality and they were all intertwined. I’m always excited to uncover some event in history that I didn’t know about when I read a book by Rita Sepetys, and this one was no different. The situation was fascinating, even though it was tragic. I especially enjoyed the perspective of Ana and her position at the hotel between the two very different societies in Madrid. The ending was different from anything I’ve seen before; it was like a long epilogue but it had a plot twist that I wish had been explored further.
