I love this author. She always brings out the best in HF. Her character development is spot on. In addition she always finds a way to intertwine the characters and I enjoy that thoroughly as she executes this flawlessly. Set in Spain during the Franco year’s, we learn of the hardship the people face and the lies the government hide as well as the many secrets the characters hold within for various reasons. We also get a bit of romance and hope as the book wraps up. Short chapters spanning many years, it is a beautifully written book. My only small issue was the length and the slow start but other than that, Ruta does it again. Great book with so much history and depth. I recommend it.
