Has anybody else noticed that most historical fiction novels take place during WW2? I feel as if those are the only historical fiction novels that I have ever read so this book was a wonderful change of pace. This book is written about the time period of the Spanish Revolution that took place in the 1950s.
I went into this book with no prior knowledge of this time period, but Ruta Sepetys introduced me to the setting in a way that was easy to understand and enjoyable to read.
Similar to Sepetys’ other books, this one is fast paced and filled with twists and turns. I felt so many emotions as I read this. This book dealt with some heavy topics but also showed a wonderful friendship and what family means.
This was truly a beautiful story that will stick with you long after you finish the last page. It will open your eyes to parts of history that are not frequently told. I cannot recommend this book enough.
