While reading this excerpt, I decided I needed to go very slowly to savor every word. Ruta Sepetys writes beautifully and she takes care of the powerful story she is telling. I love the "flashbacks". They add a pseudo-anachronism to the novel that keeps the reader informed but on their feet. I could not stop reading.
