Ruta Sepetys is a master storyteller for her intended audience of young adults. However, as an adult that has read two of her novels, I have come to realize that she is incomparable when it comes to bringing little known history alive, no matter the age. Once again, Sepetys is leading the charge in this historical fiction gem, by delving into a story set in Spain under the fascist rule of General Francisco Franco.
Immediately I am drawn in by the stunning cover, and plunge into the characters' stories. Ana, Rafael, Daniel, and Puri have such unique perspective, that I find myself breezing through the pages in order to discover what happens to them. Once again, Ms. Sepetys has hooked me!
