The little that I know about the Spanish Civil War, I’ve read in either school history books or from Ernest Hemingways stories. So fair to say, I know very little. In the excerpt that I read, I found that the characters came to life.In a few pages , the author made me care about them, what happened to them, and more importantly what will happen to them. I want to read more, and learn more about them and the history behind the story. I also found that the historical quotes that started each sections were intriguing. You don’t often find these in novels. I appreciated them, they set a tone for the narrative that followed. What I read is well written.
