I love historical fiction, and I particularly enjoy books that highlight parts of history that are often swept under the rug. Both the setting and the characters speak to the resilience of people who have suffered the worst kind of injustices, and I truly believe in the epitaph at the beginning of the novel that states “We have only died if you forget us.”
