Upon finding out that the genius that is Ruta Sepetys was writing a novel set in 1950s Madrid, I was beyond excited. From the gorgeous and mesmerizing yellows and golds of the cover to the red envelope held in the woman's hand, I was drawn in. Reading the excerpt of the upcoming novel, there is a sense of sadness and longing that is absolutely beautiful and really draws the reader into the world of 1957 Madrid. The characters are already so complex and dynamic that one can instantly relate to them and the repetition of "Give them their blood" is both haunting and lovely. Right up until the end of the excerpt, I just wanted to keep reading. It is guaranteed to be a bestseller and a surefire winner. I cannot wait for the final copy to be released so that I may continue to explore Madrid with these characters.
