The First Mistake is the very FIRST book excerpt I’m doing a first impression review of! I came across Bookish First on Twitter, browsed around, and definitely liked the content. The prologue of the book was very intriguing because the reader will wonder who “she” actually is. It’s almost like a trailer for a good movie release. It made me want to read further. As far as the excerpt, I love how we see inside of Alice’s life—well, at least with her children, husband, and work life. I loved how the morning routine was relatable for readers who are working Moms with kids. The author did a good job taking us inside of Alice’s office dynamics and introducing us to her colleagues. Next, the hint of forbidden romance with the ex! How many of us have been in that situation before?! I look forward to WINNING this book so that I can see how the author plays the storyline out. Finally, the school drama already! That gave me life as a Mom, so I was ready to schedule an appointment with the “Head” as well.

Oh, the cover. The broken/crumpled/scattered rose 🌹 was EVERYTHING! Who knows what that might symbolize, but I have a feeling we’ll be able to attach it to a few storylines/characters.

Thank you for the opportunity to read then review this excerpt from Sandie Jones’s “The First Mistake”.
