We know there is an unreliable narrator in the mix. There is the tragic loss of a husband in the past leaving a widow with one daughter. In the present, the widow has remarried and has an 8-year-old with her second husband. Clearly there is stress on the family business and someone looking to sabotage Alice. Should be interesting to read the rest of the story.
