This First Impression left me unmoved.

At the start, there is a Prologue of three short paragraphs, which is compelling and holds a lot of promise. Then we jump into the story, and it's mundane and dull in that domestic way of everyday life. We're given three chapters, all short, where not much happens aside from a working mother dealing with the normal challenges.

The sense of foreboding in this opening is minimal. The flow feels choppy. None of the chapters have much of a point to them. We don't learn much.

This could be the type of story that builds up and takes readers by surprise, or it could simply be slow and predictable. It's impossible to get any real sense of things from this excerpt.
