This book is cuteness overload! TJ Klune uses a unique writing style to keep your attention and make the plot only the second best part of the book. Having read many of Klune's other works and loved them it was great to see the way he conveys the thoughts of a slightly clueless, ADHD, teenage, gay boy. As the reader witnesses the inner dialogue of our main character, Nick, one can't help but laugh riotously at the way his brain works.
This novel features best friends, fanfiction, superhero cliches (in the best way), and amazing banter that pokes fun at itself the whole way through. Just when you think something is cliche or too camp the book roasts itself on a (Pyro) storm of it's own making. The primary love triangle of boy loves superhero, best friend loves boy, superhero doesn't know boy exists is charming and fraught with plot twists and loop-de-loops that keep you reading.
I appreciate the portrayal of a common kid who struggles with ADHD, but still had a core group of friends who support him through possibly irradiated insects and planning heists of local reactor plants as well as his ever convoluted love life.
If you are up for laugh out loud hijinks and a solid story with a HEA.... for now..... this is the book to read.
