Alright! Thanks to BOOKishFIRST for this extended preview in exchange for an honest review.

I can see why people would like this book, but it’s also incredibly infuriating and if I had the entire book I’d still be putting it down. It’s not that it’s bad, per say, it’s that I can’t stand some of the givens.

Nick and his father felt like real people, Nick is very 16 year old boy in a pretty honest if somewhat exaggerated way. My concern on the first page of regular narration is that someone who doesn't know terms specific to fanfiction like slash and others wouldn't understand what he's talking about. I didn't have enough of the book to really evaluate the plot, but so far the world set up was pretty annoying if I'm being honest.

Notes from reading:

Page 18: Talking to his dead mom’s photo could get him back seeing a psychiatrist??? That’s ridiculous. It’s incredibly healthy to talk to those we’ve lost. It helps you process. Omg.

Later down the same page: Oh my god. Concentra aka basically Concerta. Ughhhhhhhh. Doctors who give you pills instead of actual help. Also the main reason he can’t concentrate is probably the dead mom thing. Grief brain is a thing.

Also his dad keeping them locked in a safe to keep Nick from becoming a drug dealer while also saying he trusts him??? No you don’t. Or you would actually trust him!

Also I HATE parents who force pills like that on their children. Watching to make sure you take it. That's so not okay. He has to show you his mouth to prove he took it???
