So you are either here for queer YA books, or because you are already a TJ Klune fan. Either way, you will not be disappointed. As a TJ fan myself, I was leery and hesitant. I had tried to read YA books, and while they weren't bad, I just couldn't connect. I was scared I wouldn't like this book. Boy was I wrong! I was laughing so hard I was crying. Then I was crying because my heart was breaking. And let's be honest, TJ wrote teenager flash fiction to put in this book, and it is all the awesome you think it is.

For those looking for a queer YA, please take a chance on this book. Nick and his friends are just normal teenagers that go to a normal high school. They are starting their junior year (most, there is a senior in the group), and they all have very normal problems. It's just that instead of obsessing over pop culture, they have real superheroes to fan over. This book is not about being gay (which all the main characters are), it's about all the amazing and fantastical extents a person is willing to go through for family. Both the family you are related to, and the family you have chosen. About being there for each other, about looking past the diagnosis, about supporting each other, and about putting those you love before yourself. That is what Nick learns in this book. Not that he didn't do those things before, he did, and does. But in you grow a lot through high school, and Nick learns what it really means to put others before yourself. You will laugh, you will cry, you will cringe at some truly amazing fanfiction, and you will love these characters.
