TJ Klune seems to perfectly encapsulate a teenager, and their passions and embarrassments without "dumbing down" all of the writing to make it sound like a teenager is telling the story. The fan fiction that Nick writes shows his voice, while the story itself is engaging, real and funny in an unforced way. I loved Nick's interactions with his dad! I was hoping the whole story wasn't going to be Nick's storytelling, but that part is perfectly balanced when mixed in with his kind of real life.
