TJ Klune managed to grab my attention from page one of this story! Starting with a piece of fan fiction that seems so authentic and written in exactly the voice a 16 year old fan fiction writer would use (and with comments that perfectly encapsulate the fandom experience) I was instantly hooked. The first chapter did a similarly excellent job of introducing Nick and giving a small slice of his life and backstory. The change in writing style was evident, showing that the fan fiction was intentionally written in a different style to capture the character's voice, which shows a real skill in Klune's part.

The relationship we are able to see between Nick and his dad was so sweet and endearing. It was easy to believe that these two characters had a close, humorous, and loving relationship. The reader didn't need to be told how Nick felt about his dad; it was obvious by the way they interacted and spoke to one another. I look forward to seeing even more of their interactions in the full book.

Equally, I look forward to more information about the Extraordinaries. I love books with a superhero element seen from the perspective of a "normal" person. It is interesting to see how the Extraordinaries are viewed by society and even in this preview, it is obvious that the different perspectives on heroes will be explored. Adding in the fandom element just makes this even more appealing for me. I don't think I've been so excited for a book in a long while!
