Maja Lunde did a wonderful job describing a world post major climatic change. The drought and the lack of rain for days was particularly spooky. Lack of clean water was scary in the camps and seeing entire rivers getting rerouted to benefit certain members of society. David and Lu were my favorite characters in the novel because of their relationship. Although at times Lu was frustrating when getting into danger. Such as when she got sick after drinking water from a dirty rag and running into a burning building. Lu and David have very good hearts despite their difficult circumstances. I really want to read her other novel the History of Bees because her writing was great and intriguingly spooky.
