Maja Lunde’s novels challenge to think about how we are treating our environment and the consequences of looking the other way. In the History of Bees, she reminded her readers of the problem facing our bee colonies and underlines what will happen if we continue to devastate their resources. Yet, by looking to the future, she gave her readers hope. She continues this trend in The End of The Ocean. She illustrates the difficulties that we have in trying to stop progress that’s devastating our waterways and looks into the future to a time when water is scarce and our planet is burning. People are forced to flee their homes, find refuge in camps and battle each other solely for a drop of water. Yet, even in this environment we are presented with a glimmer of hope, that the planet will survive, that it will rain again. We also see that even through it all, love survives. This book is a warning about our planet, about our killing of our natural resources but it’s beautifully written. I so enjoyed this book!
