In the beginning this read felt a little on the younger YA side. The main character felt a little juvenile and naive not only about her surroundings, but about normal everyday life. Once the relationships began to build, the pacing and maturity of the book picked up. It did make the writing seem a little disjointed.
However, the ending made this book for me. It was so fast paced and wrapped up so nicely that I really enjoyed it. I wish the rest of the book matched. I loved the world that was built so quickly. A magical school for royals was exactly what was needed. It was mysterious and different. The characters were enjoyable and each had their own development that played into the story.
I am hoping for another book because the cliffhanger that was left in the epilogue can not be the way we are left. This would be a great read for young teen readers or those getting a start into quick fantasy reads.
