Firstly, I am a huge fan of Melissa de la Cruz! I have read a lot of her work and usually her work is on point. Unfortunately I feel that The Encanto’s Daughter fell a little flat and lacked the magic I was looking for compared to her other series. Because I feel like it was flat and it lacked the magic I was looking for, I found it to be slightly boring. I was looking for suspension rather than the problems to be immediately solved. I gave it a 4 star rating due to the authenticity of the cultural aspect. I absolutely loved the Filipino mythology that was weaved throughout the story and the cliffhanger at the end. She also kept me guessing about who the villain was which was a big plus! The writing still flowed flawlessly as always and was definitely an easy read for any YA. It was not my favorite of Melissa's that she has written but I didn't hate it either. I will still read book 2 when it comes out.
