I will readily admit that I am a complete and total sucker for the hidden/on-the-run royalty trope. So that might be coloring my overall outlook on The Encanto's Daughter just a bit. But that aside, what initally intrigued me about this book was its inspiration from Filipino culture. I don't usually see books that openly pull from it, and while I might just be looking in the wrong places, I thought that aspect gave this book a unique touch. The plot was entertaining, but I did feel that it was geared more towards Middle Grade readers instead of Young Adult. Nothing wrong with that, but a fair warning to those expecting the main characters to act YA. That lack of complexity did bring the book down a star in my opinion, because I felt the 'twists' were fairly easy to see coming. That being said, I still really enjoyed it and would fully recommend for younger readers!
