This book has a beautiful cover and an intriguing premise. Alas, the writing style was not for me. In the interest of getting to the heart of the story, the beginning is very rushed. I didn't feel like the character was properly introduced. I got a decent way into the book and didn't really know MJ as a person -- like personality wise. I appreciate that there was no info dump at the beginning, but that means that important things to know about the world and the character were just dropped in without detail or explanation. A few times I found myself saying, "What?!" For example, reveals about MJ's mom had me giving that reaction a lot. I do think the fact that I'm doing a lot of mood reading right now is affecting me as well -- I just don't think I'm in the mood for this right now -- I was reading it to get my review written, but my mind and heart are wanting to be somewhere else.
All this said, it really is a beautiful cover and concept, and I think the story will. find its readers.
