The "sneak peek" of the novel, "The Encanto's Daughter", by Melissa de la Cruz was enjoyable, and the novel itself did not disappoint! If you are looking for a diverse, YA read for an advanced elementary reader, middle school reader or high schooler, you may want to consider "The Encanto's Daughter". The main character, MJ Rodriguez, has spent the majority of her eighteen years with her mother in the human world in hiding and dodging danger. Upon her father's sudden death, she once again finds herself in Biringan and next in line for the throne. As she is adjusting to life in Biringan (without the help of her mother, who was injured getting MJ to the safety of Biringan), preparing for her coronation, and the stress of not having discovered her "talent", she is also faced with the mysterious deaths of her father, her page, and her friend's father. Are the deaths related, will her demise be next? Without giving anything away, the ending was very well thought out. I can't wait to read the sequel to what will be a wonderful YA series.
