This was a fun read. The characters were quirky and interesting, the plot was fun and easy to follow and overall it was just a fun time. The main character was sometimes a little annoying but she was a teenage girl so that makes sense. There were a couple times where the writing took me out of the immersion. For example, MJ (The mc) says the word clout twice. For context, she is half human and grew up in California; however, reading that in a fantasy setting and in the same sentence that you're talking about magic and royalty is kind of jarring. MJ makes a couple choices throughout the book that just made me go "huh?". I had to remind myself that she's 17 and I'm not the target demographic. For what it is, a silly fantasy novel about a girl entering a strange land to become queen, it was actually really fun and easy to read. I probably would've liked it more had a read it as a teen but I still enjoyed it a lot, even at 26.
