The setup of this book seems very fun--a "normal" girl growing up in the real world who turns out to be not-so-normal. The writing was a lot more colloquial than I was expecting for a high fantasy with such a whimsical cover, but looking back, it does make sense that the book starts out sounding like a YA contemporary. I would be interested to see if that changes as MJ enters the fantasy world, or if she will maintain this narration style.
