Surviving Modern Relationships
Arnold's The Electric Kingdom starts furiously and hilariously. Set in snowy New Hampshire, the imagery is just right. Immediately, I want to continue reading about the numerous characters whose unique struggles are bizarre yet relatable. A recently fired woman, a young couple whose child decides to emerge into the world in a traffic jam, and the evangelist graffiti artist.
As this first section moves into Part One, new characters are introduced. They are just as intriguing and well drawn.
I have read other titles by David Arnold and I sense the familiar religion versus modern day reality exploration will persist. His ability to flesh out characters is something I admire and enjoy reading.
