I foresee a future in which a new genre of literature, pandemic lit, will dominate the market similarly as vampires did in the early aughts followed by zombies and post-apocalyptic fiction. David Arnold's The Electric Kingdom seems like it has potential, and the reliance on colloquial language and odd humor reminds me of David Wong's writings.
