The first thing that drew my eyes from The Electric Kingdoms's cover, was the big hole in the center of the design. Interestingly enough that made my eyes scan the whole image. The main center of the design is the hole, but there is in the background, a women who's with a dog and a bright red backpack, as if she was going to camp on in search of a place to stay. And the surroundings are a forest in mid fall, with its yellow orangish pines. In terms of the design there are both warm and cold colors. Something I like from the design, is the concept of having the title of the book appear as if it was being socked into a hole/ tunnel. However, the way it was photoshopped doesn't appeal to my senses as much as i'd like to. It doesn't look as well together as the concept could've been done. So as a graphic designer and reader, for the cover design I'd give it 2/5. It's not the worst I've seen, yet it does disappoint me because there is potential for a better final product.
The story on the other hand, is about a post-apocalyptic world, that has been swuped by a deadly fly flu. The main character is a, eighteen female survivor named Nico, that is with her dog on a search for mythical portal. While on the other side, there is another narrative, by a young artist named Kim raised in an abandoned cinema, making a huge contrast between this two character's previous experience in life. during the rest of the search, this two characters encounter other survivors in the woods, that are also in the search for the portal, while the infected flies make it channeling along the way.
This story sounds very interesting and has a very interesting contrast between the two characters Kim and Nico. I find it kind of funny, how with all that's currently happening with the Covid pandemic, I started to make connections in the begging because of the fly flu and the whole apocalyptic theme. The topic seems very interesting and somewhole current to how we all feel things could go if things continue to get worse. I'd give the story 4.5/5. Very nice, interesting, and entertaining so far.
