Carly, a twenty-something Physical Therapist in North Carolina, found her life spiraling seriously downward. Her beloved husband, Joe, was reported to have been killed at Pleiku in the Vietnam War. The child she carried and hoped would be a tangible reminder of the love she and Joe shared was diagnosed with a rare heart ailment. When her daughter was born, she would almost certainly die within days if not hours. Life was a seriously rocky ride for her.

And this was just the first chapter of this amazing book. Diane Chamberlain's THE DREAM DAUGHTER was a tightly researched and exquisitely written story that kept me entranced from the moment I started until I finished. Before the book's end it would take me from 1965 to 1970, to 2001, to 2013.

The question that moves the story along is the hope and dream that an experimental surgery in 2001 would cure the baby's heart ailment and allow her to live a long and healthy life. The problem was: how to get to 2001, have the in utero surgery, give birth, and return to 1970 with a healthy baby. Of course, not everything goes as planned.

This book was a wild ride that involved time travel and broken hearts that kept me engrossed until the end in 2022. The characters were strong and well drawn. The plot was intricately crafted. And the book was simply the best read I have had in a long time.
