It starts off by the main character having a birthday dinner with a mix of people, some famous, some personal to her, some alive, some dead and what a conversation with them would be like.
While it tells the dinner story it also goes on to tell a story of her and her ex-boyfriend which is an entire plot in itself.
At times I was unsure where the book was going to go, but was pleasantly surprised as the book progressed. As you get towards the end the story really falls together and everything because so much clearer (the reasons for the people, conversation etc)
It also brings the question... If you could have a dinner with a table full of people living or dead, who would you choose to sit with you?
