I’ve not read any books by this author before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I got was an incredible journey, rich in history, which will leave a mark on your heart. Needless to say I wasn’t disappointed.
The story is about the descendants of African slave women who were thrown overboard and their world. It follows Yetu, who carries the terrible memories of the past and how being the Historian for her people deeply affects her being, to where she flees to the surface. The concept is so original and intriguing, and that was seen for me throughout the story. This book begs to be read and should be. It’s uncomfortable and painful but worth every second of the time you spend between these words.
