I was so jazzed to receive this as an advanced reader copy. Anything Sirens has me at hello!!
Although the Siren aspect of the story could have been explored a bit deeper, I absolutely loved this little book (I say little because it is literally a tiny book and super quick read).
I knew instantly I would adore this book based simply on the fact that it was written and based on the Hugo-award nominated song by Clipper. The characters are also based on descendants of drowned African slave women. That in itself is DEEP.
Yetu, the lead hero, is charged with keeping the secrets of her people and ancestors. This is a heavy weight and forcers her to shield herself and her emotions from her world showcasing the weight that history can have in a person. The relationship she makes throughout the story are incredibly emotional and transcending. I absolutely loved this story!!
