This short book really packs a punch. It’s dark & raw & painful & beautiful. It tells the story of the ocean-dwelling descendants of pregnant women that were thrown off of slave ships, and the historian tasked with remembering all of their shared history, so that the rest of the wajinru (the merpeople) are not burdened by their collective past.

However, I think this book would have really benefited from more world building, and more development. Since it's so short, all the world building is underwhelming, the relationships seem rushed, and the reader isn't given enough time to connect with the main character. It easily could've had another 200 pages, and I'm surprised it was so so short. At the end, it’s a really stunning, powerful book that I hope you pick up.
