๐—ฌ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜‚ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ historian for her people- sea dwelling descendants of pregnant African Slave women, thrown overboard by the slavers - meaning she holds all of the memories and the truth of their pasts, that too painful for her kind to live with. While they live as empty vessels knowing only the present, Yetu struggles daily with losing herself to the memories and determining past from present.
Yetu wants to survive.. but at what cost to her people? She will have to come to terms with her past and her identity, and how they can all survive.

This book was amazing. It turned out to be much darker and much deeper than I anticipated, and left me wanting more at less that 160 pages.
The book was adapted to go with the song The Deep by @clppng which was fascinating to listen to after reading. The song and book tell the same story, but the contrast between how masculine the song is and how feminine the story is really stood out to me, I liked it a lot. Rivers Solomonโ€™s writing is phenomenal, the story is deep and raw.
