I'm a huge fan of sea themed books, especially in the winter when I'm missing warm summer days. I went into this read thinking it would be just another mermaid book- boy was I wrong!
This book was absolutely heart wrenching and very eye opening. Before reading, I had never heard about slaves being thrown into the sea. Knowing this information makes a story about black mermaids so incredibly powerful.
This book had be from the very first chapter. Although i rarely read a book in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. Every time I told myself "just one more page" or "just until the end of the chapter", I found myself unable to stop. When I finally finished, it was 4:00am. It was totally worth it.
