Set as an underwater, historical fantasy, this novel is absolutely beautifully written. The descriptions and world-building are subtle and naturally woven into the narrative. The main character, named Yetu, is young girl burdened with the ancestral memories of her people. Her struggle to separate herself from the history of others is one that draws you in and keeps you with her as she carries the weight of an entire civilization. Yetu is deeply emotional and empathetic, and I absolutely love her character. She carries so much, and feels so deeply, that you can't help but want to know what she will do next.
