Yetu is the "historian" of the wajinru, mermaid-descendants of slave women thrown overboard. Her sole responsibility is to keep the memories of the ancestors and share them with the rest of the wajinru once a year. But Yetu doesn't seem quite up to the task.
I'm very curious about how the slave narrative will be woven into this mermaid story. History is obviously important for the wajinru, so I'm guessing that Yetu will discover something that turns their civilization on its head and makes her question everything she knows.
I love the cover. It gives a sense of the dark depths of the ocean and Yetu facing the darkness by herself.
