I like the idea of this. It offers a variety of things readers like... mermaids (always a hit), African characters, among others. It also touches on slavery, or at the descents of slaves. This whole combination is quite unique.
With the right promotion, I could see this being a huge hit. And the cover is pretty decent, too.
