Rivers Solomon and the rest of the writing team on The Deep should and probably will win a bunch of awards for this novella. After reading the preview for this story I was hooked.
African takes on mermaids is enough to get me interested since African stories are not only new to me but also a genre that needs more of a spotlight in fantasy literature. Plus the women who sadly died on slave ships becoming mermaids is not only magical, but bittersweet.
I will be picking this up when it comes out and I would suggest that everyone else who loves myth stories do the same!
