The cover caught my eye (it was the melanin! I don't see it often enough! lol). Then I noticed who the author was (I've read a previous work of hers) and I already knew I was gonna read this one. Having read the first few pages, I was reminded of her writing style. Very descriptive, not just visually but also in regards to the mood. I was easily immersed in the storytelling, especially considering this is a book about mermaid descended from Africa! Really?? I look forward to reading more.
