I'll start with saying I love mermaid fiction stories. And the concept behind this sounded neat and unique. The whole African American slaves being thrown into the waters and here lie the mermaids, it sounds like it could be pretty fun to read and very engaging. But unfortunately, that's not how I felt with the first look. I LOVE the cover but it seems to be the loveliest thing about this book. The writing didn't mesh with me at all and I found it boring.
