This book pleasantly surprised me. I saw it being compared to Bridgerton which I tried multiple times but just could never get into. I also don't usually like historical fiction. One of my favorite authors Ayana Gray blurbed this book so I decided to give it a try and I really enjoyed it! It also falls under young adult, romance, and had important representation all of which I enjoyed. This was a strong debut novel. this book was told from the perspective of two sisters, one of their best friends and a servant. It is the first in a series and I am already looking forward to book two. It takes place in a time of African American history that I've never read about before and it was a fresh perspective I'd like to see more of, especially in Young Adult. I think I'd like historical fiction more if it was always like this. I would recommend to any YA fans.
