This book started off really slow. I would say the first 50-75% was slower placed than I prefer in books. However, I did really enjoy the characters. I liked that they each had very distinct personalities, stories, and goals. I really don't know if this needs to be a series because I felt that a lot of the stuff rushed at the end that actually made the book interesting could have been spaced through the book and a satisfying ending to their stories could have been written within this book. That being said I did like the twists in the book and the ending was really cute.
I did feel sad that there were things that happened to the characters that would have been interesting to see rather than just being told they had happened. I liked having four main characters to follow, but I did think it was odd that the four girls never interacted altogether. We are told they all grew up together friends, so for them to not all have interactions was disappointing. Hopefully, this does happen through the series because despite the slow start I do really want to see th characters' stories continue. Mr. Barton, Helen, and Mr. Lawrence were probably my favorite characters. I would recommend this book. I thought it was incredibly well written even if I didn't agree with all the author's choices. In a lot of ways this book reminded me of the show The Gilded Age which I really like.
