I would like to start by saying that this book was an amazing display of multiple POVs. There were four girls that each had their own personalities and their own lives. And you could tell that a lot of thought went into crafting each character so that they were replications of each other.

I loved the plot, setting, characters, and everything else that was in this book. Focusing on a Black family in the 1910s was such a unique idea that I haven’t seen done before. This gave each of the characters so much background that it was amazing to see how they applied that background to their everyday lives. And how being Black was somewhat of a struggle for them.

For all the great that this book was throughout, the ending ruined it for me. I HATED the ending. Within the last chapters, everything went wrong. Like very wrong. So wrong as in the ending was not wrapped up at all and I felt like I read the book for nothing because all of the progress that was made throughout the book was lost. I felt like the whole book was a ploy to be able to write more about each of the characters. Because the book could’ve ended with a happily ever after if not for the last 4 chapters.

I do recommend reading it but just know that you will not be satisfied.
