Interesting
This book had a really great premise. There aren’t enough books out there with POC main characters, especially black main characters. So a historical fiction black female led book immediately excited me.
I liked the story, it was to me what it promised to be. I wasn’t the greatest fan of the author’s writing style but that was truly personal preference.
I liked some characters and was irritated by others, as in all books. The book speaks to the time and I enjoyed the fact that the Davenports were one of the rich and famous families but we also got characters who weren’t members of the wealthy.
While it wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever read or one of my all time favorites, I did enjoy the book and I liked the story overall. I would probably have made some changes but it’s not my book. The book ended with mixed feelings from me but overall was a good read.
