This was a fun read!

I think the "Black Bridgerton" comparison was pretty accurate. This book is a historical romance that was light on the historical aspect and heavy on the romance aspect (which I personally prefer, but just a heads up for future readers who maybe prefer the opposite).

Overall, I enjoyed how all the various relationships were portrayed. This story features four POVs, all of which I enjoyed for the most part.

I enjoyed that this story followed a wealthy Black family as they juggled secrets, drama, romance, longing, angst, racism, classism, gender norms, familial expectations, and fighting for civil rights. I do think that the pacing was a bit slow for my liking, but I think the plot twists would have been a bit punchier if the pace was a bit faster. I am definitely interested in reading more from this author and series.
