First of all.. the cover is so eye-catching! So much yellow. It definitely stands out. I love the use of bright colors and I really am digging a book that looks into the lives of POC in the 1910 Chicago environment.
The Davenports follows the story of the Davenport family, ran by a former slave named William Davenport, who now runs Davenport Carriage Company. The story follows the lives of the family members and their friends, all of which are enthusiastically charming and fun to follow.
The beginning of the book was quite fun. I loved the first page and how it tied back to the cover- wearing the yellow dress.
The author does a great job and putting you in the position of the characters. From the first person POV, I really felt like I was able to enter the minds of the characters, as though I was experiencing what they had experienced.
The book isn't released yet, so this is all from the ARC first look.. However, I hope to read more!
