After reading the synopsis of this book, I was immediately intrigued by this story. This book is based on the true story of one of America's successful African American families at a time when there were only a few of them. I really like how the book is unique in this sense- it focuses on a time period in American history that not a lot of people learn about. I also enjoyed the author's style of writing and how the characters are written. I am excited to read more of this story, especially the parts of it that contain romance. The cover of this book is also very beautiful and bold!
